Rangers signed OF Val Majewski to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock.
Majewski, 30, was playing with the York Revolution in the independent Atlantic League. He played professionally with Double-A Midland in the A's organization last season, batting .262/.341/.411 with nine homers and 56 RBI over 343 plate appearances. The 2002 third-round pick hasn't appeared in the majors since 2004 with the Orioles, so he's likely to serve as organizational depth.

Orioles sent outfielder Val Majewski, outfielder Adam Stern and second baseman Eider Torres outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
None of the three received September callups. Majewski, a fine prospect before missing 2005 with a shoulder injury, hit .272/.345/.386 between Double- and Triple-A this year. Stern, who was acquired from the Red Sox for Javy Lopez last year, hit .270/.326/.360 in Triple-A. Neither seems likely to have much of a career as a reserve.

Orioles optioned OF Val Majewski, INF Eider Torres and RHP Jim Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk; reassigned LHP Chris Waters, 1B Brandon Sing and OF Luis Montanez to minor league camp.
Not that he had much chance anyway, but Majewski was handicapped in the competition for bench spots by the fact that he hits left-handed. The 25-year-old looked like he'd be a solid platoon outfielder earlier in his pro career, but his stock is well down now and it's unlikely he'll have a role with the Orioles at any point during the season.

Orioles optioned outfielder Val Majewski to Triple-A Ottawa.
A one-day stay for Majewski. It's for the best, as he has nothing to gain by sitting on the Orioles' bench, not after he missed 2005 with a shoulder injury. Majewski might get a real opportunity come July or August.

It's not known which minor league affiliate he'll play with, but it should be enough to ensure he'll be activated on Tuesday. The 36-year-old backstop has been sidelined since May 5 with a strained right oblique.

Rangers placed 2B Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with an intercoastal strain.
Kinsler hasn't started the last two games with rib soreness and said he still felt discomfort during batting practice on Sunday. The Rangers aren't overly concerned about the injury, but top prospect Jurickson Profar will be called up to replace Kinsler on the active roster. Kinsler is batting .302/.369/.500 with seven home runs through his first 40 games this season.

Matt Harrison recently had a setback with his back that required an additional surgery on Wednesday.
Harrison underwent an operation on April 23 to repair a herniated disk in his lower back but began feeling additional discomfort this week, necessitating another procedure. According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers are "operating under the assumption that Harrison will pitch again this season, but he will be out for at least three months." In other words, we won't see him again until August at the earliest, and it seems like there's a good chance it will be longer than that.

Alexi Ogando (biceps) underwent an MRI which revealed no structural damage.
Ogando was placed on the disabled list on Thursday with biceps tendinitis after he felt some pain during Wednesday's start against the Athletics. It's an encouraging sign that no more serious damage was found, and his stay on the DL should be a short one. Josh Lindblom is expected to hold his place in the rotation while he's sidelined.

Colby Lewis (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Rangers' rotation in the first week of June.
After dealing with a minor bout of triceps tendinitis, Lewis will resume his rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Monday. He'll need two additional outings after that before being activated. The right-hander is a nice roster stash in fantasy leagues if you have room.

Feliz's rehab from Tommy John surgery is going fine, although it's not yet been announced when he'll be ready to throw off a mound. We expect him to return to a major league mound late in the summer.

Joakim Soria (elbow) will be shut down for 2-3 weeks with a strained pectoral muscle and is now not expected to return until around July 1.
A tough break for the Rangers, as Soria had been slated to join the Rangers' bullpen as soon as late next month. The good news is that his surgically-repaired elbow is fine. The Rangers will continue to use a host of players to set up for Joe Nathan.
