Skip Schumaker announced Wednesday that he has decided to retire from baseball.
The 36-year-old will walk away after 11 major league seasons. He hit .278 over that span with 28 homers in 3,252 at-bats. Schumaker played for four teams in his career but he'll mostly be remembered for his time with the Cardinals from 2005-12. A utility player, Schumaker was able to play second base and all three outfield positions. He went hitless in eight at-bats for the Padres this spring before calling it quits.
