Matt Garza was blasted for a season-high seven runs over three innings in a loss to the Astros on Monday night.
The seven earned runs allowed matched a career-high. Garza surrendered five hits (including a pair of three-run homers) while walking two and striking out two. He had allowed just five runs over his last four starts combined. We wouldn't hesitate putting him back in all fantasy formats this weekend with a start against the Pirates on tap.

Matt Garza allowed two runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings of Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.
Garza struck out two and walked one before watching his bullpen surrender seven runs in 2 1/3 innings. The two strikeouts were a season low, though Garza has now been quality in five of his first seven starts. It's earned him a 2.58 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 41/16 K/BB ratio through 45 1/3 innings. He'll get the Astros in Houston on Monday.

Matt Garza pitched decently in his return to the rotation on Friday, limiting the Brewers to one run on three hits over five innings of work.
Garza did show a bit of rust on the effort, and was especially shaky in the first inning. He finished the night with five walks and three strikeouts. He remains at 2-1 on the season and sports a quality 2.56 ERA. He’ll look to get back in the win column when he faces the Phillies at home on Wednesday.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Cubs are looking to extend Matt Garza, not trade him.
General manager Jed Hoyer indicated as much back in February. Heyman notes that "there's nothing hot right now, but the lines of communication are open" regarding a Garza extension. Things can always change closer to the deadline if the Cubs are overwhelmed by an offer, but it appears, at least for the time being, that they'll hang on to the 28-year-old.

Cubs placed C Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with a slight tear in his left meniscus.
He'll need arthroscopic surgery, which will sideline him for around three weeks. The Cubs acquired Koyie Hill from the Reds earlier in the day for depth and officially purchased his contract from the minors. With Steve Clevenger (oblique) still out and Welington Castillo out for a week with a mild MCL sprain in his right knee, Hill and Blake Lalli will share catching duties for now.

Steve Clevenger (oblique) went 0-for-2 on Wednesday in his second rehab game with Triple-A Iowa.
He also played four innings behind the plate. Clevenger should be ready rejoin the Cubs within the next few days and figures to get a good amount of playing time with Geovany Soto and Welington Castillo both sidelined.

Carlos Marmol (hamstring) threw a successful bullpen session Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa.
If he wakes up feeling no abnormal discomfort on Thursday morning, Marmol should be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday night with Triple-A Iowa. The 28-year-old right-hander is aiming to return to the Cubs' bullpen by next weekend. He is sure to be eased back into high-leverage relief appearances.

Cubs placed RHP Marcos Mateo on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
Mateo came down with a bit of soreness in his forearm near the end of spring training. He missed a majority of 2011 with forearm troubles, so the Cubs are going to play it as safe as possible with the righty reliever.

The strain is being referred to as "moderate," so it could be more than a minimum stay on the DL for the Rule 5 pick. Scott Maine takes his spot on the roster.
