Dan Uggla indicated Sunday that he's not interested in being a bench player.
"I’d have to say no," he said. "I’ve never done it before. It’s not where I feel like I’m at in my career. That’s not what I’m looking to do." Uggla is being unrealistic here. He's 35, has hit .171/.291/.326 over the last two seasons and signed a minor league deal over the winter. To his credit, he's batting .278/.422/.500 with a couple homers this spring, but it's highly unlikely anyone sees him as starting material anymore. He has a shot to make the Nats' roster in a reserve role and is expected to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract if he doesn't make the club. Mar 29 - 10:53 AM
