Ben Zobrist drove home a pair of runs on Friday, helping to lead the Rays to a 6-3 victory over the Padres.
He finished the night 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and a stolen base. He's having another very solid all-around season, hitting .266/.354/.419 with three homers, 24 RBI and three stolen bases. His fantastic production, combined with his multi-position eligibility, make Zobrist an extremely valuable asset in most fantasy leagues.

As expected. Zobrist has been away from the team since Saturday following a death in his family.

Ben Zobrist (bereavement list) remains out of the Rays' lineup on Monday.
It's Zobrist's second straight absence, though he's expected to return on Tuesday. The Rays' do-everything infielder/outfielder is batting .261/.333/.414 with 11 extra-base hits and 21 RBI through his first 126 plate appearances.

Rays placed LHP David Price on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left triceps muscle.
Price suffered the injury Wednesday night in his start against the Red Sox. An MRI taken shortly after his exit showed no major damage and the Rays are optimistic that he will only miss a few turns in the rotation, but nothing is certain quite yet. Jake Odorizzi and Chris Archer are the primary candidates to replace Price.

Gomes had been pitching well for Tampa, putting up a 1.03 WHIP and 16/2 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be out. Josh Lueke has replaced him on the roster.

Rays transferred RHP Jeff Niemann from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Jeff Beliveau. Niemann underwent shoulder surgery last week and is unlikely to return this season.

Rays purchased the contract of RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo, placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
Oviedo is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and will miss most, if not all, of the 2013 season. The Rays obviously have decided he's worth hanging onto in hopes he can contribute in 2014.
