Twins optioned 1B Chris Parmelee to Triple-A Rochester.
He was cleared to make room for Justin Morneau's return from the disabled list. Parmelee was given a shot at the starting first base job following a hot September last year, but he has disappointed to the tune of a .179/.250/.262 batting line to go along with zero homers over 92 plate appearances.

Chris Parmelee will be optioned down to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.
He'll be cleared to make room for Justin Morneau's return from the disabled list. Parmelee was given the starting first base job out of spring training, but he's hitting just .179/.250/.262 with zero homers over 84 at-bats this season.

Chris Parmelee is back in the Twins' lineup Monday for the first time since being hit in the helmet with a pitch last Wednesday.
Parmelee suffered a black eye as a result of the pitch, but the good news is that he didn't show any concussion symptoms. He will start at first Monday and bat eighth against Angels' left-hander C.J. Wilson.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Chris Parmelee (head) is available off the bench Friday night, but that he'll likely shy away from using him.
Parmelee hasn't played since since being hit in the helmet by a Justin Thomas fastball during Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. He showed no signs of a concussion and his headaches are already gone, so it shouldn't be much longer before he's ready to return.

Twins placed RHP Nick Blackburn on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad.
Blackburn battled the injury throughout Wednesday's start against the Tigers and was rocked for six earned runs in just two innings. The Twins need to get him right, which could take around three weeks. Blackburn has an 8.37 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through seven starts this season. It was originally announced that Doumit was heading to the disabled list, but he's merely day-to-day with a left calf strain.

Updating a previous item, Scott Baker underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday instead of just having a cleanup of the scar tissue in his flexor pronator as originally reported.
It's a significant difference, as Baker would likely have entered spring training healthy if he only had the flexor pronator cleaned out. Now, he'll almost surely be sidelined into the 2013 season. An MRI hadn't showed any damage to Baker's ulnar collateral ligament, but Dr. David Altcheck discovered damage while the righty was opened up and went ahead with the procedure.

Kyle Waldrop (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers Saturday.
Waldrop began the season on the disabled list with a right elbow strain. The Twins haven't said how many rehab outings he'll need, but he should certainly be ready before the end of the month if he doesn't have any setbacks. He's not lock to be added to the major league roster, though.
