Clayton Kershaw turned in a mixed-bag start in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Marlins, striking out 10 but allowing five runs to score in the sixth inning.
Kershaw was dynamite through the first five innings, but everything fell apart in the sixth. With one out, Miguel Rojas hit a shallow pinch-hit double to left, which was followed by an infield single off the bat of Dee Gordon. Martin Prado and Christian Yelich would then hit back-to-back RBI singles. At which point, Giancarlo Stanton stepped up and whacked a three-run home run to put the exclamation point on the frame. Sometimes, you just get burned by Giancarlo Stanton. It happens. Kershaw will carry a 2.43 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 40/3 K/BB ratio (over 37 innings) into a home start against the Padres next time out.
