The Cubs are moving Carlos Villanueva to the bullpen.
Villanueva held his own as a starter, but he's no longer needed in the rotation with Matt Garza returning from the disabled list. The Cubs were considering going with a six-man rotation, but decided against it after Villanueva allowed seven runs over five innings in his last outing. Villanueva has a 3.93 ERA and 1.14 WHIP this season and will now be used as long reliever.

Carlos Villanueva allowed seven runs over five innings as the Cubs lost to the Rockies on Tuesday.
Villanueva was consistently bad Tuesday, allowing runs in four of his five innings of work. In total, Rockies hitters got to him for 12 hits, including two home runs. After starting the season on a roll, Villanueva now owns a 3.93 ERA and has just one win to show for his efforts. He should be better his next time out against the Pirates.

Carlos Villanueva owns a 3.02 ERA and 35/14 K/BB ratio in 47 2/3 innings over seven starts this season.
Villanueva's ERA has increased in each of his last five starts, but he has been the Cubs' most consistent pitcher outside of Travis Wood. Still, the Cubs will have to decide whether to move him or Scott Feldman to the bullpen when Matt Garza (lat) is ready to return from the disabled list.

Carlos Villanueva whiffed eight batters but allowed four runs over six frames in Sunday's loss to the Marlins.
He had a couple bad innings, giving up a two-run homer in the first and three hits and two runs in the sixth, and that was enough. Still, it was another solid outing for the right-hander, and he'll carry a nice 2.29 ERA and 0.82 WHIP into next weekend's start against the Reds.

He's also throwing from 120-130 feet and is expected to start swinging a bat early next week. Clevenger is on the 60-day DL and won't be eligible to return until mid-June. He should have no trouble being ready at that time, though he's not a given to return to the big club.

It was Baker's first time throwing since he was shut down near the end of spring training with a right elbow strain. The Cubs will know a lot more about his timetable once he starts to build up his workload.

Rafael Dolis has been called up to replace him in the bullpen. Camp owns an ugly 7.56 ERA and 12/6 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings of work this season.

Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday that Arodys Vizcaino (elbow) is a couple weeks away from appearing in a game.
He is presumably referring to an extended spring training game. Vizcaino, who will continue his rehab with the Cubs rather than at the club's spring training facility, is expected back around midseason.
