After taking a shutout into the ninth, Clay Buchholz was denied a win Monday, giving up three runs in 8 1/3 innings against the Blue Jays.
Buchholz was brilliant for eight, so sticking with him in a 3-0 game seemed like the right move. Nevertheless, he certainly would have been pulled after the second one-out single he gave up had Koji Uehara been his usual dominant self. As it was, Buchholz was left in and walked Jose Bautista on four pitches, loading the bases. Uehara took over then and allowed all three runners to score, tying the game. The Red Sox won 4-3 in 10 innings, snapping their seven-game losing streak, but Buchholz deserved better, even if he is the game's most frustrating pitcher right now. While he's pitched well in three of his last four starts, dropping his ERA from 6.20 to 5.76, he's still winless since July 18. Aug 25 - 11:07 PM
