Randy Wells has announced his retirement from baseball.
Wells had allowed 32 hits and 16 runs in 23 2/3 innings this year at Triple-A Round Rock. The 30-year-old right-hander played five seasons in the major leagues.

Randy Wells was lit up for three runs on six hits and a walk over four innings in Thursday's tie versus the Dodgers.
He struck out three and served up a home run. Wells entered camp with an outside shot at the final spot in the Rangers' rotation, but he's probably already pitched himself out of contention with a 2.00 WHIP over his first three spring appearances.

Rangers signed RHP Randy Wells to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring trianing.
Wells had a 5.34 ERA in 28 2/3 innings this year with the Cubs before requiring surgery on his right elbow. He should be fine for the start of the 2013 season but probably won't make the Rangers' Opening Day roster.

Randy Wells will likely miss the rest of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow.
Just the latest blow in a disappointing season for Wells. The 29-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment at the end of June after posting a 5.34 ERA and 14/24 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings and was then outrighted to the minors after clearing waivers. He's making $2.705 million this season and is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter, so he figures to be a non-tender candidate.

It's not known which minor league affiliate he'll play with, but it should be enough to ensure he'll be activated on Tuesday. The 36-year-old backstop has been sidelined since May 5 with a strained right oblique.

Rangers placed 2B Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with an intercoastal strain.
Kinsler hasn't started the last two games with rib soreness and said he still felt discomfort during batting practice on Sunday. The Rangers aren't overly concerned about the injury, but top prospect Jurickson Profar will be called up to replace Kinsler on the active roster. Kinsler is batting .302/.369/.500 with seven home runs through his first 40 games this season.

Matt Harrison recently had a setback with his back that required an additional surgery on Wednesday.
Harrison underwent an operation on April 23 to repair a herniated disk in his lower back but began feeling additional discomfort this week, necessitating another procedure. According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers are "operating under the assumption that Harrison will pitch again this season, but he will be out for at least three months." In other words, we won't see him again until August at the earliest, and it seems like there's a good chance it will be longer than that.

Alexi Ogando (biceps) underwent an MRI which revealed no structural damage.
Ogando was placed on the disabled list on Thursday with biceps tendinitis after he felt some pain during Wednesday's start against the Athletics. It's an encouraging sign that no more serious damage was found, and his stay on the DL should be a short one. Josh Lindblom is expected to hold his place in the rotation while he's sidelined.

Colby Lewis (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Rangers' rotation in the first week of June.
After dealing with a minor bout of triceps tendinitis, Lewis will resume his rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Monday. He'll need two additional outings after that before being activated. The right-hander is a nice roster stash in fantasy leagues if you have room.

Feliz's rehab from Tommy John surgery is going fine, although it's not yet been announced when he'll be ready to throw off a mound. We expect him to return to a major league mound late in the summer.

Joakim Soria (elbow) will be shut down for 2-3 weeks with a strained pectoral muscle and is now not expected to return until around July 1.
A tough break for the Rangers, as Soria had been slated to join the Rangers' bullpen as soon as late next month. The good news is that his surgically-repaired elbow is fine. The Rangers will continue to use a host of players to set up for Joe Nathan.
