Justin Verlander flirted with a no-hitter, but settled for a one-hit shutout of the Angels on Wednesday.
Verlander lost his no-hit bid with no outs in the ninth inning when Chris Iannetta hit a double that hit the chalk down the left field line. The right-hander struck out Kaleb Cowart, got David DeJesus to pop out, and Kole Calhoun to fly out to end the game. He struck out nine and walked two in the effort. It seems Verlander is back on track, as he has allowed only four runs (one earned) in his last four starts spanning 29 innings. Overall this season, he has a 3.45 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and a 71/20 K/BB ratio over 86 innings. Verlander will take on the Blue Jays in Toronto next. Aug 26 - 10:11 PM
