Michael Hollimon went 4-for-4 with a walk Saturday in the Twins' victory over the Marlins.
Hollimon figured to be one of the Twins' first cuts, but with an 8-for-14 start, he's making a case for a utility job. The 29-year-old was a solid prospect in the Tigers chain before injuries derailed his career. He was out of baseball in 2010 before coming back to hit .231/.326/.416 between Double- and Triple-A for the Twins last season. He's not really a threat to have fantasy value, but it'd be a nice story if he won a job.

Twins singed INF Michael Hollimon to a minor league contract.
The 28-year-old Hollimon registered a .212/.320/.385 batting line and three home runs over 124 plate appearances at the Double-A level in 2010. He'll act as organizational infield depth for the Twins next year.

Tigers recalled infielder Michael Hollimon from Double-A Erie and placed him on the 60-day disabled list.
Purely a procedural transaction, the move enables the Tigers to make room for infielder Brent Dlugach on the 40-man roster. Also, similar to what the Phillies did with pitcher John Ennis on Monday, it also gives the club some roster flexibility for the post-season.

Michael Hollimon said he's ahead of schedule in his return from surgery last September to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.
Hollimon was expected to miss a portion of 2009 because of the injury, but he said he's 90 percent now and he expects to be able to participate in full workouts when spring training starts. He's not going to make the Tigers out of spring training, but he should be the first middle infielder called up if injuries strike.

Darin Mastroianni will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle, and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
It was a very discouraging sign when Mastroianni, who was already progressing slowly in his recovery, was uncomfortable testing his ankle during light sprints on Wednesday. He shouldn't be expected to return to the Twins until after the All-Star break and can safely be dropped in deeper mixed formats.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
