Athletics optioned RHP Jesse Chavez to Triple-A Sacramento.
He was sent down to make room for Monday's starter, Dan Straily, on the active roster. Chavez has allowed four runs (three earned) in 4 1/3 innings of work with the A's this season. He'll likely bounce back and forth from the majors to the minors throughout the summer.

Athletics recalled RHP Jesse Chavez from Triple-A Sacramento.
Chavez will work in middle relief for Oakland. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 5.99 career ERA in the bigs.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) received a day off from his rehab assignment on Saturday but will play in each of the next three games with Triple-A Sacramento.
Nakajima has appeared in four games thus far with Sacramento, going 3-for-15 (.200) with a double and a pair of RBI. He's expected to need a lengthy rehab assignment before joining the Athletics, and isn't a lock to receive significant playing time once he is activated.

Josh Reddick admitted Monday that it's possible he'll need surgery on his ailing right wrist.
The good news is that Reddick has no structural damage, and he's already feeling better since being shut down over the last week. However, he'll wait another week before trying to swing a bat, and if he's not able to at that time, surgery might be required. Reddick had an operation on his left wrist after the 2011 season and need two months of recovery time, so if he does get cut open he's likely to be out past the All-Star break.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
