According to Kyodo News, outfielder Nori Aoki has agreed to a three-year contract with the Yakult Swallows of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League.
The deal is worth around $9.19 million. Aoki returns to the Swallows after a six-year stint in the states where he batted .285/.350/.387 over 758 games between the Brewers, Royals, Mariners, Giants, Astros, Mets, and Blue Jays. He turned 36 earlier this month and might have been looking at a spring training invite if he wanted to stick around in MLB.

Mets released OF Nori Aoki.
Aoki is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter and the Mets obviously didn't want to pay him what he was projected to earn. It's possible they could bring him back at a lesser rate, but he'll now have the opportunity to negotiate with all teams. Aoki batted .277/.335/.393 with five homers and 10 steals over 374 plate appearances for the Astros, Blue Jays and Mets this season.
Mon, Oct 30, 2017 05:31:00 PM
Nori Aoki went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Friday versus the Nationals.
Aoki plated a run with a single in the fifth inning before giving the Mets the lead with a ground rule double in the sixth. The 35-year-old is batting .315 (23-for-73) in 18 games since joining New York. He’s starting to make a compelling case to stick around for 2018.
Fri, Sep 22, 2017 11:31:00 PM
Nori Aoki went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored Sunday in the Mets' defeat of the Braves.
Aoki also had a big game Saturday, belting a pair of doubles and tallying two runs scored. He's been fairly productive over the last seven weeks between Toronto and New York, though there's not a whole of fantasy appeal here for the stretch run.

Travis d'Arnaud
60-Day DL
Travis d'Arnaud underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday morning.
Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News hears the procedure was successful. The 29-year-old catcher will be out for the remainder of the 2018 season. Tomas Nido and Jose Lobaton are sharing time behind the plate for the Mets with Kevin Plawecki currently on the shelf with a hand injury.

10-Day DL
Kevin Plawecki (hand) is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks.
Plawecki has a hairline fracture in his left hand as a result of a hit by pitch Wednesday. With Travis d'Arnaud (elbow) also sidelined, the Mets will go with Tomas Nido and Jose Lobaton at catcher for now.

The move creates a spot on the 40-man roster for Jason Vargas. Rivera will miss the beginning of the season while working his way back from last September's Tommy John surgery.

Mets placed 3B David Wright on the 10-day disabled list with back and shoulder injuries.
Wright hasn't appeared in a major league game since May 2016 and it's uncertain at this point if he will ever return. The 35-year-old third baseman is owed $20 million in 2018, $15 million in 2019, and $12 million in 2020, though the Mets do have an insurance policy on that contract.

Jason Vargas (hand) will make his next rehab start at Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.
He had been slated to start Sunday but will be pushed back a day. Vargas could conceivably be added to the Mets' rotation late next week after Monday's start, but the Mets haven't committed to anything yet.

Mets placed RHP Rafael Montero on the 60-day disabled list with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Montero is set to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. He'll miss the entire 2018 season and will likely be a bit behind at the start of next season, as well.

10-Day DL
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that Anthony Swarzak (shoulder) has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation, and will stay in New York to receive treatment.
Swarzak has begun throwing off of flat ground as recently as Monday, but after feeling some discomfort, they're shutting the right-hander back down. Instead of travelling with the team to Florida, he'll stay behind and receive the treatment, and then figure out what the next step is in his recovery. His original ETA of early May looks to have taken a hit.
