Pirates acquired INF Ivan DeJesus, Jr. from the Red Sox in the Joel Hanrahan deal.
DeJesus owns a .298 batting average and .370 on-base percentage in the minors, but he has scuffled in sporadic opportunities in the majors. Without much in the way of pop or speed, the 25-year-old likely fits best as a utility player in the long-term.

Red Sox sent INF Ivan DeJesus Jr. outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
DeJesus was designated for assignment last week but has cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. He's batted just .205/.253/.247 over 48 career games.

DeJesus was out of options, and the Sox already have a similar player on the roster in Pedro Ciriaco. It's possible he'll receive some interest on waivers.

Acquired from the Dodgers in last month's megadeal, DeJesus has batted .273/.324/.364 in 23 big league games this season. He'll provide infield depth.

That's assuming he gets through bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Friday with no issues. McDonald is slated to go four innings and/or throw 65 pitches for Altoona, so he'll need at least one additional rehab start before being activated. He's not a given to rejoin the rotation once healthy.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Thursday that Charlie Morton (elbow, shoulder) will make three more minor league rehab starts.
Morton's rehab from Tommy John surgery was recently halted due to some shoulder soreness, but he returned to game action Thursday with Double-A Altoona and gave up two runs in four innings. If all goes well, he could join the Pirates' rotation in the early part of June.

Karstens, currently working his way back from shoulder inflammation, gave up one run in three innings Monday in his first rehab outing with High-A Bradenton. He could join the Pirates by early June, though it isn't clear what his role will be.
