Padres manager Bud Black said there's a "definite possibility" that Cory Luebke (elbow) won't pitch in 2013.
Luebke is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has been shut down since last month with renewed soreness in his elbow. He will try to resume a throwing program in 2-3 weeks. While the Padres aren't counting on anything from Luebke right now, they haven't completely ruled out a mid-August return.

Cory Luebke (elbow) has had his throwing program stopped for the second time this year in his attempt to return from Tommy John surgery.
Luebke was shut down in early March before resuming sessions of catch on April 1, and he had progressed to throwing off a mound before this latest setback. Obviously none of this bodes well for his mission to return to live major league games by the All-Star break.

Luebke had a minor setback in early March and was shut down from his throwing program, but he's slowly starting to build up his workload again. He's not sure if the time off will have an impact on his timeline, but the Padres were previously aiming for him to return around midseason.

Yonder Alonso (hand) said Friday that he hopes to return from the disabled list in three weeks.
Alonso suffered a fractured hand last Friday and Padres general manager Josh Byrnes believes he could miss a month. While it's nice to see the optimism and strong desire to return, the Padres will likely play things safe. Before the injury, the 26-year-old was off to a terrific start, hitting .284/.335/.416 with six homers and 29 RBI through his first 54 games. Kyle Blanks and Jesus Guzman are likely to see the majority of the starts at first base until Alonso returns.

Gyorko landed on the DL over a week ago and is just now getting back into baseball activities. He's eligible to return in a week but will need to go out on a rehab assignment first. It's not clear when he'll be ready for that.

Cabrera suffered the injury trying to steal second base on Sunday. He'll be eligible to return around the start of July and there's a chance he'll be ready by then. Alexi Amarista and Pedro Ciriaco should see playing time at shortstop when he's sidelined.

Maybin has a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee and is expected to miss 6-10 weeks. The Padres have called up Jaff Decker to replace him on the active roster while Chris Denorfia and Will Venable should pick up the slack in center field.
