Hicks was competing for a utility job, but batted just .128/.358/.303 this spring. Omar Quintanilla will serve as Mets' backup infielder this season.

Mets acquired INF Brandon Hicks from the Athletics for cash considerations.
Hicks was just designated for assignment by the Athletics last week. The 27-year-old batted .172 (11-for-64) with three homers and a .633 OPS in 22 games at the major league level this season and figures to serve as middle infield depth.

The A's needed to clear some room on their 40-man roster in preparation for the Rule 5 Draft. Hicks, 27, batted just .172/.243/.391 for them during his brief time in the big leagues in 2012.

Athletics recalled INF Brandon Hicks from Triple-A Sacramento.
The Athletics are recalling Hicks for infield depth behind Cliff Pennington and Brandon Inge. He's returning to a .183 batting average with 29 strikeouts in 20 games (64 plate appearances) this season.

Jenrry Mejia (elbow) racked up six strikeouts over three innings during his first minor league rehab start with High-A St. Lucie on Friday.
Mejia has been on the disabled list for the entire season with inflammation in his pitching elbow. He's likely to require a relatively lengthy rehab assignment, and shouldn't be expected to return to the Mets until early June. Should he secure a spot in the Mets rotation, he could carve out a decent amount of value in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

The move cleared a spot on the Mets' 40-man roster for Aaron Laffey. Santana (shoulder) won't pitch this season.

Francisco was diagnosed with a mild strain of the flexor pronator in his right elbow last week, but he's already back at it. However, it's not clear if he's throwing from a mound or simply playing catch or long-tossing. Either way, he's not close to rejoining the Mets' bullpen.

Collin McHugh was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the vacant bullpen spot. Atchison has been shut down for a week and prescribed anti-inflammatory medication. It's not clear when he might return.
