Rangers' prospect right-hander Matt West (elbow) is scheduled to resume throwing next week.
West was shut down during spring training after spraining the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The Rangers are hoping he'll be able to avoid Tommy John surgery.

Rangers optioned RHPs Matt West and Wilmer Font to Class A Myrtle Beach.
The Rangers also reassigned right-hander Fabio Castillo to minor league camp. West is currently rehabbing a sprained ligament in his elbow while Font missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery.

Matt West sprained the UCL in his right elbow and will be shut down for six weeks of strengthening.
West made the transition from third baseman to power reliever in 2011 and posted a combined 3.00 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 24 relief appearances between Low-A Spokane and High-A Myrtle Beach. If no significant progress is determined after six weeks, Tommy John surgery will likely become the next option.

Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Matt West from High-A Myrtle Beach.
West, who turns 23 next week, made the transition from third baseman to power reliever this season, posting a 3.00 ERA and a stunning 35/1 K/BB ratio over 27 innings between Low-A Spokane and High-A Myrtle Beach. The 2007 second-round pick sits in the mid-90s with his fastball and could improve his stock even more in 2012.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Neftali Feliz has an ulnar collateral ligament sprain in his right elbow.
His injury had been described just as inflammation. It's always concerning when the UCL is involved, but evidently Feliz's ligament isn't bad enough to require surgery. He'll be shut down for at least a month and isn't expected to return to the Rangers until after the All-Star break. Daniels also mentioned that it's possible Feliz's role could change upon his return.
