Pirates prospect outfielder Andrew Lambo was diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his shoulder.
Lambo suffered the injury running into a wall Sunday. Pirates director of player development Kyle Stark said he "probably will be impacted by it the rest of this season," though he is expected to play again "sooner rather than later." Lambo, who was acquired from the Dodgers in the Octavio Dotel trade, is batting .346/.443/.462 with two homers and seven RBI over his first 13 games with Double-A Altoona.

Pirates acquired OF Andrew Lambo and RHP James McDonald from the Dodgers for RHP Octavio Dotel.
A nice get for the Pirates. Lambo, 21, has posted decent numbers at Double-A over the last two seasons, even flashing power at times. He could develop into a starting corner outfielder for the Pirates within a few years. McDonald is a quality young righty as well.

Andrew Lambo will return to Double-A Chattanooga on Friday after serving a 50-game suspension for a positive drug test.
"We look forward to him getting out there playing and playing hard," Dodgers farm director De Jon Watson said Thursday. "He's done everything Major League Baseball has asked and everything that we have asked from an organizational standpoint, and we'regoing to do everything we can to support him through this difficult time for him." Lambo tested positive for "a drug of abuse" last month. The 21-year-old outfielder was batting 342 with two home runs, seven doubles and two triples over his first 82 plate appearances before being suspended. He was ranked as the organization's No. 7 prospect by Baseball America over the winter.

Marte was held out of the starting lineup (and has not started a game since last Wednesday) due to soreness in his left rib cage, but the issue is obviously improving. Marte, 24, is batting .287/.355/.422 with six home runs and 20 stolen bases in 64 games this year.

A.J. Burnett said Friday that he has a Grade 1 tear in his right calf.
Burnett, who was placed on the disabled list Thursday, said he currently can't put any weight on his leg. There's no clear timetable for his return, but the veteran right-hander said that he hopes it's "not a six-week thing." The Pirates and fantasy owners are hoping the game, but it doesn't sound like he'll be back when he's first eligible.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Monday that Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) "felt good" while throwing off the mound Monday.
It's not clear what the next step will be, but it could be enough for the Pirates to send him out on a rehab start. Rodriguez has been sidelined since June 5 with left forearm tightness.

James McDonald (shoulder) might be moved to the bullpen when he is activated from the disabled list.
Gerrit Cole's promotion and Charlie Morton's return created a potential logjam in the Pittsburgh rotation and McDonald is probably going to have to be the odd man out. The 28-year-old righty owns a 5.76 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 29 2/3 innings this season. He is on the 15-day DL currently because of inflammation in his shoulder.
