Alfredo Aceves has reported to Triple-A Pawtucket.
The Red Sox shopped Aceves, but he predictably didn't draw any trade interest. He was optioned to the Triple-A level on Wednesday after posting an 8.66 ERA and 2.09 WHIP over his first 17 2/3 innings in Boston. Aceves is expected to be used as a starter in the minors and should return as a swingman later this season.

Alfredo Aceves will be used as a starter at Triple-A Pawtucket.
"The capability is there. Yet we’ve got to get him back on track. Not just inning to inning but outing to outing," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "He is a depth starter for us. Whether that’s 6, 7, 8, or 9 is more predicated on rest and who’s available on a given day. He goes back to that role." The Red Sox will try to trade Aceves first, but it's unlikely that they'll find any willing partners.

Alfredo Aceves is expected to report to Triple-A Pawtucket within the next 72 hours.
Aceves was officially optioned to the Triple-A level on Wednesday after posting a brutal 8.66 ERA and 2.09 ERA over 17 2/3 innings with Boston. If he doesn't report to Pawtucket, he will not get his $2.35 million salary. The Red Sox are reportedly trying to trade the 30-year-old right-hander, but they're doubtful to find much of a market.

The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reports that the Red Sox will try to trade Alfredo Aceves.
Aceves was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket after Wednesday's game, but the Sox will apparently look to deal him before he has to report to the minors. He pitched well prior to 2012 but holds a 5.93 ERA and 1.46 WHIP since the beginning of last season and his makeup issues are well documented. At this point, the Red Sox will probably take very little in return for him.

Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.
Morales threw three innings in his last outing and will stretch it out to four innings Saturday. The lefty would have been activated by now had the Red Sox wanted him as a reliever, but they're stretching him out as a starter in case he's needed in that role. "Well, he'll likely get to four innings [on Saturday], and if we don't change course with his role, we'd like to get him to a minimum of five before we'd look to do something back here," manager John Farrell said.

Andrew Bailey (biceps) threw a 15-pitch simulated inning on Thursday afternoon at Tropicana Field.
Bailey induced fly ball outs from each of the three batters he faced and then worked on his throws to first base for a few minutes. The right-hander is expected to make a rehab appearance on Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket before rejoining the Red Sox bullpen on Monday. He will take back Boston's ninth-inning gig once he is activated.

Joel Hanrahan was upbeat Friday after he required Tommy John surgery in addition to flexor tendon surgery on Thursday.
Hanrahan will be in a cast for ten days, but will start the rehab process shortly thereafter. Either way, he's looking at a 12-to-14 month timetable for his return. Hanrahan, who is a free agent after the season, is a long way away from having any tangible fantasy value.
