Athletics optioned RHP Evan Scribner to Triple-A Sacramento.
Scribner tossed three innings in Thursday's loss to the Indians, so the Athletics want a fresh arm for their bullpen. The 27-year-old should find his way back to the majors at some point soon.

Scribner posted a 4.26 ERA in 12 2/3 innings earlier this season with Oakland. He will pitch in middle relief.

Scribner posted a superb 2.55 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 30/12 K/BB ratio across 35 1/3 innings of relief last season for the A's but hasn't been nearly that good this year. He should get another shot later this summer.

Evan Scribner has earned a spot in the A's Opening Day bullpen.
Scribner registered an excellent 2.55 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 30/12 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings last season, but he still had to fight for a spot on the 25-man roster this spring. The A's bullpen is a very underrated unit.

Athletics transferred INF Scott Sizemore from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

Jed Lowrie left Tuesday's game with a right foot contusion.
Lowrie was hit on the foot by a Yu Darvish pitch. It's not clear at this point if the ailment will cause him to miss additional time, but it's likely a day-to-day situation in all likelihood.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) is expected to be added to the major league roster when his 20-day rehab window expires on Wednesday.
Nakajima is batting just .250 with a .313 on-base percentage at Triple-A Sacramento, but he's made strides defensively and has also showed he can play second and third base. His role with the big club figures to be limited.

Josh Reddick (wrist) will try taking batting practice on Friday.
If it goes well, he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Reddick discussed last week the possibility of surgery on his right wrist, but he's been able to take dry swings with no issues. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, it seems possible that he could be activated sometime next week.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
