Mariners optioned OF Casper Wells to Triple-A Tacoma.
He was sent down to make room for Miguel Olivo's return from the disabled list. Wells has been buried on Eric Wedge's bench this season, batting .213/.302/.362 with one homer, six RBI and a .664 OPS in 53 plate appearances. At least he'll get to play every day in the minors.

Mariners trainer Rick Griffin told Greg Johns of MLB.com that Casper Wells has fully recovered from a "balance disorder."
Wells began having vision and balance problems last season after taking a Brandon Morrow fastball off his nose on August 17. He wound up going just 7-for-56 (.125) over his final 18 games before being shut down in mid-September with what was called "vertigo-like symptoms." The 27-year-old figures to serve on the short side of a platoon with Mike Carp in left field now that he's back to full health. His speed and power should make him relevant in AL-only formats.

Casper Wells appears to be over the vertigo-like symptoms that caused him to miss the final three weeks of the season.
"I’m fine, I’m doing some physical therapy involving my eyes, but it’s not really an issue, anymore," Wells said. "One of the doctors testing my eyes said they were so good that when I was having the trouble my eyesight was still better than most people, so tests weren’t picking anything up." Wells, 27, will likely be a bench bat for the Mariners next season.

Casper Wells will see a specialist Tuesday in order to be evaluated for his ongoing equilibrium problem.
Wells hasn't played since September 16 due to what was originally diagnosed as a sinus infection, but the exact nature of his condition remains a mystery. "I've had guys who have had isolated instances with dizziness and vertigo-like symptoms, but this is different," said Mariners trainer Rick Griffin. "That's why it's taken a little bit longer." Wells was hit in the nose with a fastball from Jays' right-hander Brandon Morrow in mid-August, but that is not believed to be the cause of the problem.

Franklin Gutierrez felt no pain in his right heel Thursday, one day after throwing and running in front of Mariners trainers.
"No pain, and that’s great," he said. "The goal is the same, to get healthy, get back here and help this team win. When I woke up (Thursday) morning, there was no pain at all." Gutierrez has been cleared to run, throw and take batting practice with teammates, which he hasn’t done since spring training. He'll begin playing in extended spring training games in Arizona on Sunday, and the hope is that he'll be ready by late June.

George Sherrill is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in early May.
He's out for the year and may just decide to call it quits. Sherrill hasn't pitched since the Mariners' Opening Day series in Japan. The veteran southpaw had a 3.00 ERA in 36 innings last year for the Braves and agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with Seattle in December. He lasted 1 1/3 innings. The Mariners will go with Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetke for left-handed relief in the short-term.
