Ernesto Frieri tallied his seventh save of the year Saturday as the Angels defeated the White Sox.
Frieri struck out Adam Dunn, allowed a single to Dayan Viciedo, then retired Jeff Keppinger and Tyler Fowlers to pick up the save. He has a gorgeous 1.59 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 25/12 K/BB ratio in 17 innings this season and should remain the Anaheim closer even when Ryan Madson (elbow) is deemed fit for high-leverage situations.

Ernesto Frieri slammed the door on the White Sox in the ninth inning on Friday, locking up his sixth save of the season.
The hard-throwing 27-year-old entered the game with a two-run lead, then proceeded to walk the leadoff hitter on four pitches to bring the tying run to the dish. He was able to dig in and whiff the next three hitters in order to end the threat and preserve the victory. Frieri has now converted six-of-seven save chances on the season while posting a 1.69 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 24/12 K/BB ratio in 16 innings. He's certainly pitched well enough to hold the closer's job after Ryan Madson returns.

Ernesto Frieri got five outs for a save Thursday in the 6-5 win over the Astros.
Three of Frieri's five saves have seen him enter the game in the eighth inning, which illustrates just how much trouble the Angels have had getting to him. He's been successful despite the 11 walks in 15 innings this season; he has 21 strikeouts and he's allowed just three runs.

Ernesto Frieri got five outs Wednesday for his fourth save against the Athletics.
Frieri, who relieved an injured Scott Downs in the eighth, escaped despite issuing three walks and hitting a batter. Yoenis Cespedes getting caught stealing for the first out of the ninth proved huge. Cespedes actually had second base taken, but he overslid the bag and was tagged out by Howie Kendrick. Frieri walked two more batters afterwards, but he got Brandon Moss to fly out and Josh Reddick to foul out to end it.

Peter Bourjos (hamstring) continues to receive treatment in Arizona, and will rejoin the team when they return to Anaheim on Monday.
Even the most optimistic of time frames have Bourjos returning to the lineup at the end of May or beginning of June. Hamstring injuries can be extremely detrimental to players like Bourjos who rely so heavily on their speed, as they tend to linger and pose a high re-injury risk. J.B. Shuck will continue to see additional time in left field while Bourjos is sidelined.

Weaver was hoping to embark on a minor league rehab assignment, but the Angels want him to throw one more time in a controlled environment at their spring training complex in Arizona. He is still on track to return to the Anaheim rotation at some point in early June.

Hanson's been away from the team since early May due to the death of his step-brother. The Angels will use their off day next Monday to skip the No. 5 starter before hopefully getting Hanson back that weekend.

Ryan Madson (elbow) will move his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday and will remain there for "several weeks."
Madson thinks he's ready to be activated now, but the Angels have decided to slow things down in order to avoid re-injury. The reliever said he respects the team's decision but thinks he can "pitch here today and get people out. That's just how I feel." It sounds like he won't join the Halos' bullpen until sometime next month.

Sean Burnett reported no pain in his left forearm after playing catch on Sunday afternoon.
Burnett made his first minor league rehab appearance on Saturday and came out of it feeling fine. He is on track to return to the Angels' bullpen early this week.

Kevin Jepsen (triceps) is expected to begin a rehab assignment early next week.
Jepsen has been sidelined since April 12 with a strained right shoulder, but resumed throwing from a mound last weekend and hasn't had any setbacks. He remains on track to return from the DL sometime later this month.

Angels transferred LHP Andrew Taylor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Taylor was diagnosed with a small tear in his labrum last month. While he won't need surgery, it's unclear how long he'll be sidelined. The 26-year-old posted a 4.27 ERA and 56/25 K/BB ratio over 59 innings between Double- and Triple-A last year.
