Phillies re-signed 2B Michael Martinez to a minor league contract.
Martinez was waived last month and will remain in the organization. He appeared in 45 games with the Phillies, but isn't an option at third base going into next year. According to CSN Philly, Martinez has the lowest batting average of any National League player the with at least 350 plate appearances over the last two seasons.

Phillies sent INF/OF Michael Martinez outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
He's now off the 40-man roster. Martinez has been one of the worst players in the majors since the Phillies took him in the Rule 5 draft two winters ago, batting .188/.241/.272 over 356 plate appearances.

Phillies recalled INF/OF Michael Martinez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
He'll take the place of Mike Fontenot on the roster. Martinez, 29, is hitting just .133 (6-for-45) in 16 games with the Phillies this season, but will provide flexibility for the infield and outfield.

Phillies optioned INF/OF Michael Martinez to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
He was sent down to make room for Chase Utley's return from the disabled list. Martinez is hitting .133 (6-for-45) in 16 games with the Phillies this year. He should return to the majors at some point later this summer.

Phillies placed C Carlos Ruiz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20, with a right hamstring strain.
Ruiz was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his hamstring and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. It's a tough blow for the Phillies, who just got Ruiz back from his suspension less than one month ago. Erik Kratz and Humberto Quintero will fill in behind the plate once again.

Chase Utley (rib cage) will undergo an MRI on Thursday.
Utley was scratched from Tuesday's lineup after he felt pain and a burning sensation in his right rib cage after taking a swing during batting practice. Rib cage and oblique injuries tend to linger, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him land on the disabled list at this point. Get a backup plan in place in fantasy leagues.

Roy Halladay (shoulder) could rejoin the Phillies' rotation in late August if everything progresses on schedule.
Halladay, who had surgery last week to remove a bone spur in his shoulder and repair his torn rotator cuff, reported to extended spring training Monday to begin his rehab. General manager Ruben Amaro said Doc has pretty good range of motion and is "pretty positive." Obviously late August is so far away that it's just a rough timetable, but, given Halladay's famous work ethic, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him pitching later this season.

John Lannan (quad) is scheduled to face hitters next Wednesday.
It will be the first time he's done so since going on the disabled list. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Lannan "is doing very well. He feels good." The left-hander could rejoin the rotation in a few weeks if all goes well.

Adams landed on the disabled list earlier this week with a back strain, but reported feeling good and will throw again on Friday. The veteran right-hander thinks he could be ready to return Sunday, but the Phillies may give him some more time.
