Jordan Lyles allowed two runs (one earned) in five-plus innings Friday in a no-decision against the Pirates.
Lyles left in position for the victory, but Hector Ambriz coughed up the lead in the eighth inning. The young right-hander held the Pirates to just four hits while the lone earned run scored on a solo homer by Andrew McCutchen in the first inning. He struck out four and walked two. While it was a step in the right direction after the Rangers hammered him last Sunday, Lyles needs to do a lot more to get our attention in fantasy leagues.

Jordan Lyles earned his first win of the season on Tuesday night, allowing three runs in five innings as the Astros topped the Angels.
The right-hander wasn't dominant but was good enough, striking out six in his five innings. All the damage against him came on a Mark Trumbo three-run homer in the first inning, but Lyles settled down to keep the Angels at bay over the next four to get the win. He is talented but inconsistent and on a terrible Houston team, meaning he should be left for only the deepest of AL-only leagues at this point. Lyles' next start will come against the Rangers on Sunday.

Making his 2013 debut for the Astros, Jordan Lyles allowed two runs in five innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Tigers.
This was pretty much the best-case scenario for Lyles, considering that he had a 5.32 ERA in Triple-A prior to his callup. The team says the plan is for him to remain in the rotation the rest of the way, but he's not an option in AL-only leagues right now.

Astros recalled RHP Jordan Lyles from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Lyles will make his first major league start of the season on Thursday night against the Tigers. He had a 5.32 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 23 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level and should be ignored in all fantasy leagues.

Maxwell is no longer wearing a brace on his fractured left hand and is progressing steadily. He's scheduled to have a routine X-ray on Tuesday to see how the healing is coming along. The outfielder should make a late May/early June return if all goes well.

Bud Norris left Tuesday's start against the Royals following six scoreless innings after aggravating his back injury.
Norris was originally supposed to start Sunday after leaving his previous outing with back spasms but was pushed back just in case. Obviously, it appears that he's not over the ailment. The righty gave up just five hits and two walks over six frames before exiting Tuesday. The Astros should provide an update on his status after the game.

Josh Fields (forearm) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with High-A Quad Cities.
Fields is scheduled to throw two innings. The Rule 5 pick appeared in two games with the Astros in early April prior to being placed on the disabled list. If all goes well, he could return to the big club sometime this month.

Paul Clemens left Monday's appearance with a right pinkie injury.
Clemens was struck by a comebacker and appeared to dislocate the finger, but the Astros' trainer popped it back in place and he stayed in to face one more batter. The club reconsidered after that, though, and decided to remove him. Clemens saved the bullpen with 5 1/3 scoreless relief frames after Erik Bedard lasted only 1/3 of an inning.

Alex White will undergo Tommy John surgery.
White showed diminished velocity this spring and was diagnosed with a strained pitching elbow, but the injury turned out to be worse than that. The young right-hander will obviously miss all of 2013 and might not be ready for the start of 2014.
