16-year-old shortstop Miguel Jean has been granted a U.S. work visa, completing his $3.15 million deal with the Twins.
Jean, formerly known as Miguel Angel Sano, agreed to terms with the Twins in September and took on his father's surname last week. Questions about his actual age remain, but the Twins were willing to take the chance. "Many teams were interested in Sano's talent," his agent, Rob Plummer, said Saturday, "but Minnesota always trusted that everything was right and that's why today they have one of the best young players in the world." He's expected to begin his professional career in the Gulf Coast League.

Twins SS prospect Miguel Angel Sano will be known as Miguel Jean when he starts playing stateside.
Jean was using Sano, his mother's surname, as a sign of respect in the Dominican Republic. Now that he's in the U.S., he will take on his father's surname. The 16-year old is expected to start his career in the rookie Gulf Coast League squad in Fort Myers, Fla.

According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 16-year-old shortstop Miguel Angel Sano has agreed to terms with the Twins.
Sano, a highly touted prospect out of the Dominican Republic, will be handed a $3.15 million signing bonus. He was pursued heavily by the Pirates and Orioles, among other teams, but questions about his age and identification caused a stir around the league. An investigation came back inconclusive, but that obviously didn't scare away Minnesota management. The deal is pending a physical and Sano's ability to obtain a work visa.

According to MASN, 16-year-old Dominican shortstop Miguel Angel Sano has lowered his asking price in recent weeks.
Major League Baseball's investigation into Sano's age and identification revealed only inconclusive results. That hasn't helped interest, but several teams are still in the hunt, including the Orioles, Red Sox, Yankees and Pirates. He was seeking a $3 or $4 million bonus when the international signing period first opened, and may be aiming for something around $2.5 million at this point.

Darin Mastroianni will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle, and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
It was a very discouraging sign when Mastroianni, who was already progressing slowly in his recovery, was uncomfortable testing his ankle during light sprints on Wednesday. He shouldn't be expected to return to the Twins until after the All-Star break and can safely be dropped in deeper mixed formats.

Cole De Vries (forearm) will make his second rehab start with Double-A New Britain on Friday.
De Vries allowed two runs -- one earned -- while giving up six hits over four innings in his first rehab outing on Sunday. "He came through all right," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "He got to about 50 pitches or so. So he'll pitch May 10 for New Britain at home and we'll see how he does. We'll stretch him out again." De Vries is expected to be stretched out 100 pitches before becoming an option for the Twins' rotation.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
