White Sox claimed RHP Zach Stewart off waivers from the Pirates.
Stewart was DFA'd by the Bucs last week and is now back with team he pitched for during the first few months of 2012. He has a disappointing 6.82 ERA over 103 career major league innings and won't be guaranteed a big league roster spot for the start of the 2013 season.

Pirates designated RHP Zach Stewart for assignment.
Stewart, who was acquired from the Red Sox in the offseason, has an underwhelming 6.82 ERA over his first 103 innings in the majors, but could draw some interest on waivers. The Pirates officially re-signed Jeff Karstens to a one-year deal in a corresponding move.

Stewart was just designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week. The 26-year-old right-hander was once considered a pretty solid prospect, but he has an ugly 6.82 ERA over his first 103 innings in the big leagues. We're not expecting much, but he should compete for a roster spot during spring training.

Beckham had surgery in mid-April to remove the hamate bone from his hand, so the White Sox don't want to take any chances. He's expected to be held out of action until next Wednesday at the earliest.

Chris Sale (shoulder) played catch on Saturday and has deemed himself ready to make his Tuesday start.
"Everything is on track and I’ll be ready to go on Tuesday," Sale said, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. He was scratched from his turn this past Wednesday due to mild tendinitis in his left posterior shoulder but is feeling better after a few days of rest. It's great news for Sale owners, as the left-hander has a 5-2 record and 2.53 ERA through nine starts this season.

Gavin Floyd underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow.
The surgeon told the White Sox that the operation "could not have gone better." However, since he needed two major areas operated on, the recovery is expected to be 14-19 months rather than the standard 12 months for Tommy John surgery. With that timetable, Floyd probably shouldn't be counted on for a whole lot in 2014. He'll be a free agent over the winter.

Septimo has been out all season with a left shoulder strain. He's begun a rehab assignment but now will not be eligible to return until May 22.
