Doug Fister was knocked around for five earned runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss on Sunday night against the Rangers.
Fister worked up a high pitch count early and had to be pulled after giving up four runs in a disastrous fifth inning. It was his first non-quality start this season and just his second loss. Fister will take a 3.62 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into a matchup with the Twins on Friday.

Doug Fister allowed two runs in seven innings as the Tigers beat the Astros 6-2 on Tuesday.
Fister had just one glitch on the night, allowing three hits to begin the second inning before settling down and holding the Astros scoreless for the rest of the night. His control was on point as well, as he struck out seven while not walking a batter. There's the usual caveat that "it's the Astros," but Fister is now 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA through eight starts. He'll toe the slab next against the Rangers on Sunday.

Doug Fister turned in a quality start in a no-decision against the Astros on Friday, surrendering three runs (two earned) on nine hits over six-plus innings of work.
Fister struck out four on the night while walking just one. He cruised through the first six innings unscathed, but ran in to trouble in the seventh when the first five Astros reached base, pushing all three runs across. Fister, who often gets overshadowed in the Tigers’ star-studded rotation, now sits at 4-1 on the year with a 2.93 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29/7 K/BB ratio over his first 40 innings. He’ll strive to get back in the win column when he takes on the Indians at home on Friday.

Fister had a no-decision in his last outing, but he hasn't had any bad starts this season. He gave up six hits, no walks, and finished with eight strikeouts. Fister will have a plus matchup in his next start Friday against the Astros.

Tigers placed OF Austin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
Jackson is expected to need the full 15 days. Avisail Garcia was called up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding roster move and will get regular playing time in the Detroit outfield over the next two-plus weeks. Jackson was batting .272/.333/.371 with two homers, 11 RBI, five stolen bases and 33 runs scored in 34 games.

Octavio Dotel (elbow) has resumed throwing.
Dotel was given medication and shut down for six days after Dr. James Andrews determined earlier this month that he had no structural damage in his right elbow. The righty will eventually head out on a rehab assignment, though it's unclear when that will happen. He should return sometime next month if he can avoid setbacks.
