Marlins signed RHP Amaury Rivas to a minor league contract.
Rivas has sputtered the last two seasons in his first taste of Triple-A, posting a 4.72 ERA in 2011 and a 5.24 mark last season. The soon-to-be 27-year-old is merely organizational depth.

Brewers sent RHP Amaury Rivas outright to Triple-A Nashville.
The move clears a spot on the Brewers' 40-man roster. Rivas, who had elbow surgery last September, had a 4.72 ERA and 108/81 K/BB ratio over 150 2/3 innings with Triple-A Nashville in 2011.

The Brewers announced Wednesday that Amaury Rivas underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.
He will soon begin a rehab program, so it sounds like he should be on track to be ready for spring training. Rivas, 25, had a 4.72 ERA over 28 starts with Triple-A Nashville this season, averaging 6.5 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9. He has backend starter upside.

Amaury Rivas held the Cubs to an unearned run over 1 2/3 innings as a Brewers split-squad won 5-3 on Monday.
The Brewers lack starting pitching depth, so Rivas is a candidate to make an impact this year. The late-blooming 25-year-old from the Dominican Republic went 11-6 with a 3.37 ERA in 25 starts for Double-A Huntsville last season.

Olivo hasn't started since May 12 and is batting just .203/.250/.392 in 33 games this season. The Miami Herald reports that Olivo walked out on the Marlins after the team refused to grant his request for release. Jordan Brown has been called up from Triple-A New Orleans to take his roster spot.

Marlins placed 1B Casey Kotchman on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.
Kotchman was due for a large dip in playing time anyway with starting first baseman Logan Morrison now back from the 60-day disabled list. Kotchman suffered the injury on Saturday and will probably be out three weeks.

Chris Valaika underwent successful surgery on Friday, having two pins inserted into his wrist.
Valaika is expected to require 4-6 weeks of healing time before he's able to return to the Marlins. He had been virtually ineffective in his 22 games before the injury, hitting .219/.261/.344 with one homer and nine RBI.

Kearns was already on the bereavement list, so it's just a procedural move to give him more time. Kyle Skipworth has taken Kearns' spot on the roster.

Diaz should be ready to return to the active roster as soon as he's eligible. The 35-year-old is batting just .167/.211/.222 in 10 games this season with the Marlins.

Sanabia felt discomfort in his groin during Sunday's loss to the White Sox and had to be lifted after four innings. The exact severity of the groin issue is unclear at the moment. Nathan Eovaldi will take Sanabia's spot in the Marlins' starting rotation later this week.
