Tigers manager Brad Ausmus indicated Wednesday that he doesn't consider Daniel Fields as an option for left field to start the season.
Andy Dirks is expected to miss three months after back surgery, so Fields has been mentioned as a possible platoon option to go along with Rajai Davis in left field. However, it's clear that Ausmus believes he could use more time in the minors. "I don't wanna say he's not a candidate, but he's probably a notch below just because of the development," said Ausmus. Fields was added to the 40-man roster in November after he hit .284/.356/.435 with 10 home runs, 58 RBI, 24 stolen bases in 118 games last year in Double-A. Mar 5 - 12:49 PM
