Brewers purchased the contract of RHP Michael Fiers from Triple-A Nashville.
Fiers wasn't ranked before the season by
Baseball America
among the team's top-30 prospects, but he's made a name for himself after posting a 1.86 ERA and 132/36 K/BB ratio over 126 frames between the rotation and bullpen at Double- and Triple-A. It's unclear at this point what role he'll have, but it seems possible he could get a start or two after the Brewers officially clinch the division.

Michael Fiers struck out seven over five innings and combined with three relievers on a one-hit shutout for Single-A Brevard County on Thursday.
Fiers pitched out of the pen after being drafted in the 22nd round last year, but he had some incredible numbers, finishing with a 1.33 ERA and a 59/5 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings. Naturally, the Brewers are trying him as a starter this year. He's 24 and he doesn't throw hard, but he knows how to use his curve and change. Time will tell whether that will carry him past the high minors.

Mat Gamel underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
Gamel also had surgery to repair a debridement of the lateral meniscus. He will miss the rest of the season. Travis Ishikawa, Taylor Green, Corey Hart and Brooks Conrad have all seen time at first base since his injury and the Brewers could eventually go outside the organization for a more stable solution.

It's just a procedural move. Gonzalez underwent season-ending surgery for a torn ACL about one week ago.

Chris Narveson underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum and rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.
Narveson will need nine months to recover, so he will miss the rest of the season and possibly the early part of spring training next year. The 30-year-old southpaw has made 28 starts for the Brewers in each of the past two seasons and will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.

Brewers placed RHP Marco Estrada on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain.
Estrada suffered the injury on Wednesday night while running the bases. Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told a radio station in Milwaukee on Thursday morning that the 28-year-old right-hander will miss 3-4 starts. It's not yet clear who will be asked to fill in.
