The Astros assigned Jon Singleton to Double-A Corpus Christi to begin the season.
A.J. Reed is expected to be the regular first baseman at Triple-A Fresno while Tyler White and Colin Moran could also see time there, so Singleton was a victim of the numbers game. "Simply a matter of at-bats," said Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow. Singelton was outrighted off the Astros' 40-man roster back in November after batting just .202/.337/.390 over 124 games at the Triple-A level last season. The former top prospect signed an extension with the Astros before his MLB debut back in 2014, so he's still owed $2 million in each of the next two seasons with a $500,000 buyout on a $2.5 million club option for 2019.
