Darin Mastroianni went 0-for-2 with a walk in Wednesday's shutout loss to the White Sox.
His hot start to the season at Triple-A has not translated to the majors, as Mastroianni is batting only 3-for-22 (.136) with zero extra-base hits. The 15-28 Twins are searching for talent wherever they can find it, but the 26-year-old rookie has not yet answered the call.

Darin Mastroianni had the first big night of his young career on Friday, going 2-for-4 with three RBI in the Twins 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays.
Mastroianni had been on fire at Triple-A, so the Twins promoted him earlier this week hoping that he would carry over that success. He delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning, and then added another RBI single in the seventh that would stand as the winning run. If he can work himself into everyday playing time, his speed makes him worthy of a flier in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues.

Twins recalled OF Darin Mastroianni from Triple-A Rochester.
Mastroianni was off to a hot start this season at the Triple-A level, batting .365/.405/.446 in 80 plate appearances. The Twins will hope he can carry some of that offense with him to their bench.

Mastroianni was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays last month. The 26-year-old spent the majority of 2011 in the minors, batting .268/.353/.377 with three homers, 36 RBI, 34 stolen bases and a .730 OPS between Double- and Triple-A. He could get a taste of the big leagues at some point in 2012 but is an unexciting talent.

Twins placed RHP Nick Blackburn on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad.
Blackburn battled the injury throughout Wednesday's start against the Tigers and was rocked for six earned runs in just two innings. The Twins need to get him right, which could take around three weeks. Blackburn has an 8.37 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through seven starts this season. It was originally announced that Doumit was heading to the disabled list, but he's merely day-to-day with a left calf strain.

Updating a previous item, Scott Baker underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday instead of just having a cleanup of the scar tissue in his flexor pronator as originally reported.
It's a significant difference, as Baker would likely have entered spring training healthy if he only had the flexor pronator cleaned out. Now, he'll almost surely be sidelined into the 2013 season. An MRI hadn't showed any damage to Baker's ulnar collateral ligament, but Dr. David Altcheck discovered damage while the righty was opened up and went ahead with the procedure.

Phil Mackey of 1500ESPN.com reports that Alex Burnett could be headed to the disabled list due to right elbow discomfort.
Burnett's elbow started bothering him following his appearance Wednesday in Chicago. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Deolis Guerra and Lester Oliveros are the candidates to be recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Kyle Waldrop (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers Saturday.
Waldrop began the season on the disabled list with a right elbow strain. The Twins haven't said how many rehab outings he'll need, but he should certainly be ready before the end of the month if he doesn't have any setbacks. He's not lock to be added to the major league roster, though.
