Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he plans to continue to use Andy Dirks (hamstring) at less than full health.
"It's a tough situation to manage right now," Leyland said. "I gave him the night off (Wednesday in Seattle) and he bounced back real good. But he's not running full speed. I'm a little concerned about it." Leyland doesn't want to risk losing Dirk's presence at the top of the lineup, but acknowledged that he'll look to limit him late in games when the Tigers have the lead. For now, continue to view him as day-to-day.

Andy Dirks went 4-for-4 and hit his third homer Thursday as the Tigers topped the A's 10-6.
Dirks, who missed Wednesday's game with a sore hamstring, came out for a pinch-runner in this one, though it didn't appear as though he aggravated anything. He's now hitting .383 for the season.

Andy Dirks (hamstring) is back in the Tigers' starting lineup Thursday against the Athletics.
Dirks sat out Wednesday's game with a sore left hamstring, which has been a lingering issue for him this season. The 26-year-old currently has a streak of four straight multi-hit games.

Andy Dirks is not in Wednesday's lineup due to a sore left hamstring.
It's an ailment he's been dealing with off and on since mid-April. Dirks has been hot at the plate lately, though, so unless he has a setback, it doesn't appear to be something that will force him to the DL.

Tigers placed OF Austin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 17, with an abdominal strain.
Jackson doesn't sound confident that he'll be better anytime soon. "When I tried it in batting practice a couple of days ago," he said, "it didn't feel any better, and since then, I haven't done much except rest. I have to get a closer look at it to see if there's anything slowing the progress down." We should have a better idea how long Jackson will be sidelined following Friday's MRI.

Victor Martinez (knee surgery) has been off crutches for 10 days.
Martinez had microfracture surgery on his left knee in late January and underwent a procedure in early March to help the healing of his ACL. V-Mart can't afford any setbacks, but he's encouraged about the possibility of returning in September. We should know more about his status when he undergoes an MRI during a check-up in July.

Alburquerque is throwing from 150 feet, and if he continues to be progress should be cleared to throw off a mound before long. The Tigers are hoping to get the hard-throwing reliever back around the All-Star break.
