Liam Hendriks has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Rochester due to a sore right elbow.
It could explain his struggles this season, as Hendriks holds a 5.53 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over five Triple-A starts. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined.

Twins optioned RHP Liam Hendriks to Triple-A Rochester.
With Scott Diamond returning from the DL, the Twins will go with Pedro Hernandez as their fifth starter. Hendriks will likely be back when Minnesota needs a replacement for their rotation at some point later this season.

Liam Hendriks allowed one run in five innings but took the loss against the Royals on Wednesday.
Hendriks fared better Wednesday than in his first start but took his first loss of 2013. The 24-year-old allowed just a solo home run to Billy Butler in the first inning. He'll try for his first win on Tuesday against the Angels.

The Twins' ideal rotation probably includes both Scott Diamond and Sam Deduno and neither Hendriks nor Cole De Vries. Hendriks may not last the month if Deduno proves healthy.

Trevor Plouffe said Wednesday that he passed his concussion test, but was placed on the 7-day disabled list because of his initial wooziness.
After what happened with Justin Morneau and Denard Span in previous seasons, the Twins didn't want to take any chances. Plouffe hopes to be back when he's first eligible next week.

Twins transferred OF Darin Mastroianni from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for Chris Colabello on the 40-man roster. Mastroianni is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle and will be sidelined until the second half of the season.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
