Giants optioned C Hector Sanchez to Triple-A Fresno.
In a corresponding move, the Giants have called up Francisco Peguero to strengthen the bench. Sanchez hasn't seen much playing time in the early part of the season, so he's probably better off playing everyday in the minors. Guillermo Quiroz will now serve as Buster Posey's primary backup.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy believes that Hector Sanchez (shoulder) will be ready for Opening Day.
Sanchez was able to catch six innings on Friday and also knocked one over the boards. As far as offensive potential goes, he's one of the strongest backup catchers in the league, though his value is limited to NL-only leagues as long as Buster Posey is healthy.

If the progress continues, Sanchez will likely catch an exhibition game in the next few days. Giants manager Bruce Bochy had previously expressed some concern regarding Sanchez's availability for Opening Day, so Saturday's news should be viewed as a positive development.

Vogelsong was hit by a pitch while swinging the bat in the fifth inning Tuesday and suffered fractures above and below the top knuckle in his pinkie. He's expected to undergo surgery Tuesday and will likely miss around six weeks. Chad Gaudin is the most likely replacement for the rotation, though the Giants could call up Michael Kickham from Triple-A.
