Hector Santiago lasted only 3 1/3 innings Saturday as the White Sox fell to the Angels.
Santiago cruised through the first three innings but simply lost it in the fourth after yielding a solo home run to Mark Trumbo to lead off the frame. His ERA jumped from 2.23 to 2.78 and his WHIP moved from 1.08 to 1.21. The regression should have been expected. Santiago will try to bounce back next week in an easy outing against the Marlins.

Hector Santiago took a loss to the Twins after allowing six runs -- three earned -- in 5 2/3 innings Monday.
Bad timing for Santiago to have a rough outing, even if it wasn't all his fault. He struck out six and walked just one, but he did allow two homers to Aaron Hicks. With John Danks on the way back soon, the White Sox have to choose between Santiago and Dylan Axelrod for a rotation spot. Santiago seems like the better option, but Axelrod was the team's original pick and he hasn't done anything to lose his job.

Hector Santiago threw seven scoreless innings to keep pace with Matt Harvey on Tuesday, but the White Sox lost to the Mets in 10 innings.
It was a very nice turn for Santiago, who got the start due to Jake Peavy's back injury. Santiago allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out eight. It was tough luck that he didn't pick up a win, but that doesn't diminish the stellar effort. He's a good bet to get another turn in the rotation Monday against the Twins.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura appears to be leaning towards keeping Hector Santiago in the rotation over Dylan Axelrod when John Danks (shoulder) returns from the disabled list.
Axelrod has put up four consecutive quality starts, but the White Sox evidently believe that Santiago has more upside. It would give the Palehose four lefties in the rotation, but Ventura isn't worried about that. "If they’re good,’’ said Ventura. "That’s where we’re at. Once you lose a guy like [right-hander] Gavin [Floyd], you’re going to take a major-league arm whether they’re right-handed or left-handed. Ideally, you’d like to have it split up one way or another, but we’re at a point where we just need the best guys.’’ Danks is expected to make at least a couple more rehab starts, so things could change if Axelrod out-pitches Santiago over that time.

Beckham, who had surgery last month to remove the hamate bone from his left hand, will begin a rehab assignment on Saturday. The White Sox have been using Jeff Keppinger at second base and will welcome the defensive upgrade with Beckham.

Jeff Keppinger hit for the first baseman in the fifth inning. Spasms are generally a day-to-day thing, so we'll have to see how Dunn is feeling Sunday before knowing if he'll have to miss some games. It's unfortunate timing, too, as Dunn has been heating up at the plate.

John Danks (shoulder) could rejoin the White Sox' rotation next weekend.
Danks will make what could be his final rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday. The left-hander holds a 3.00 ERA over three rehab outings, but he has a 10/9 K/BB ratio over 18 innings and his velocity remains down. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach, though he would get a nice first matchup against the Marlins if he returns next weekend.

Gavin Floyd underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow.
The surgeon told the White Sox that the operation "could not have gone better." However, since he needed two major areas operated on, the recovery is expected to be 14-19 months rather than the standard 12 months for Tommy John surgery. With that timetable, Floyd probably shouldn't be counted on for a whole lot in 2014. He'll be a free agent over the winter.

Septimo has been out all season with a left shoulder strain. He's begun a rehab assignment but now will not be eligible to return until May 22.
