Tigers optioned RHP Tyler Stohr to Double-A Erie.
Stohr was added to the 40-man roster in November, and managed a 3.86 ERA with a strikeout and three walks in 2 1/3 innings this spring. He split last season between Single-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie, going a combined 1-2 with a 3.79 ERA in 57 innings.

Tigers purchased the contract of RHP Tyler Stohr from Double-A Erie.
Stohr held a 3.79 ERA and 50/25 K/BB ratio over 57 innings between High- and Double-A in 2011. He's not ready for prime time yet, but the Tigers are high enough on him to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

Tigers placed OF Austin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 17, with an abdominal strain.
Jackson doesn't sound confident that he'll be better anytime soon. "When I tried it in batting practice a couple of days ago," he said, "it didn't feel any better, and since then, I haven't done much except rest. I have to get a closer look at it to see if there's anything slowing the progress down." We should have a better idea how long Jackson will be sidelined following Friday's MRI.

Victor Martinez (knee surgery) has been off crutches for 10 days.
Martinez had microfracture surgery on his left knee in late January and underwent a procedure in early March to help the healing of his ACL. V-Mart can't afford any setbacks, but he's encouraged about the possibility of returning in September. We should know more about his status when he undergoes an MRI during a check-up in July.

Jose Valverde (back) is available Tuesday night.
Valverde hasn't pitched since last Tuesday because of lower back tightness. The 34-year-old right-hander has a 5.51 ERA and is just 7-for-9 in save opportunities this season but remains a strong fantasy option at closer and should be made active in all leagues immediately.

AN MRI taken Wednesday on Daniel Schlereth's ailing left shoulder showed no structural damage.
Good news. Schlereth is already performing range of motion exercises and should soon be cleared to resume throwing. He's been on the disabled list since late April.

Al Alburquerque (elbow) has begun long-tossing at the Tigers' spring training facility in Florida.
Alburquerque is throwing from 150 feet, and if he continues to be progress should be cleared to throw off a mound before long. The Tigers are hoping to get the hard-throwing reliever back around the All-Star break.
