He'll receive a spring training invite. Ashley, 28, has batted .260/.355/.384 over his minor league career and has yet to appear in a big league game.

Rays sent C Nevin Ashley outright to Triple-A Durham.
Ashley cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Rays last week. The 27-year-old backstop batted .263/.358/.384 with eight homers and 48 RBI last season between Double- and Triple-A. He'll serve as organizational depth in 2012.

Rays designated C Nevin Ashley for assignment.
The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Luke Scott. A former sixth-round pick, Ashley batted .263/.358/.384 with eight homers and 48 RBI between Double- and Triple-A in 2011. He seems likely to clear waivers and remain in the organization.

It's merely a procedural move. Ludwick has been ruled out until early July with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

The Reds have determined that Chris Heisey's hamstring aggravation was not severe.
"It wasn’t horrendous," assistant general manager Bob Miller said. "He tweaked it." Heisey won't return until the next homestand, which runs from May 24-28, at the earliest. It's certainly possible his absence could stretch into June.

Manny Parra (pectoral) struck out two in a scoreless inning Monday in his first rehab appearance with Double-A Pensacola.
No word on the timeline for his return, but he'll likely make at least one more appearance before being activated. Parra has an 8.10 ERA and 7/3 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings prior to going down with a strained left pectoral muscle at the end of April.

Reds transferred RHP Nick Masset from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Masset is still recovering from right shoulder surgery, and he was recently shut down after suffering a setback. The right-hander hasn't pitched since 2011.
