Phillies prospect 3B Maikel Franco went 1-for-4 with a grand slam on Tuesday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Franco had a horrendous start to his season, as he batted just .209/.367/.318 with 22 extra-base hits (five home runs) over the first three months of the season (78 games). Thankfully, the 22-year-old has looked more like his 2013 self since beginning of July, with a .327/.341/.598 batting line, 11 home runs, 15 doubles and 44 RBI over 49 games. Meanwhile, his seven home runs in August represents his highest total for any month this season, and it’s more than he hit over a combined 52 games between June and July (5 HR). Franco now has 16 home runs this season after hitting 31 in 2013. The Phillies haven’t decided whether they’ll call up Franco in September, but his torrid second half definitely has shifted the odds in his favor. Aug 27 - 3:13 PM
