Adam Conley had an aversion to the strike zone in Sunday's loss to the Nationals, walking seven and allowing six runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Conley's walk-happy ways inevitably led to a bloated pitch count. When he was lifted with one out in the sixth inning, he had already thrown 106 pitches (58 strikes). The Nationals burned him for a run in the first inning, two in the third and three in the sixth. Chalk the walks up to an off day and nothing more. In eight starts prior to Sunday's, the 25-year-old southpaw had actually done a marvelous job with his control, walking more than two batters in an outing just twice. He will carry a 4.15 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 45/23 K/BB ratio (47 2/3 innings) into his next scheduled start, a road showdown with the Braves. May 22 - 4:31 PM
