Athletics prospect 2B Joey Wendle went 2-for-4 with a home run and double on Thursday for Triple-A Nashville.
Wendle, who was acquired from the Indians during the offseason in the Brandon Moss trade, is enjoying his first taste of the Triple-A level, batting .294/.330/.559 with 16 extra-base hits (four home runs) and 19 RBI through 24 games. The 25-year-old’s two-hit performance Thursday extended his hitting streak to nine games, and he’s batting .325/.341/.576 with seven extra-base hits during that span. Meanwhile, Wendle’s early-season uptick in power shouldn’t come as a surprise considering he plays in the notoriously hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Wendle won’t be an impact player, but his excellent contact skills and average defense at the keystone should at least make him an everyday guy in the big leagues. May 8 - 4:17 PM
