Delmon Young went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's win over the Pirates.
He hit a solo shot off Charlie Morton in the fourth inning, and accounted for the majority of the Tigers' offense. Off to a slow start, Young is hitting .235/.292/.353 with 13 RBI in 32 games this season.

Delmon Young went 0-for-4 on Monday and is 1-for-10 since returning to Detroit's lineup.
Tonight's lousy game came at DH. Young has made it clear verbally that he doesn't like DHing, and he's also demonstrating it with his performance. He's just 4-for-34 (.118) as a DH this season, compared to 13-for-43 (.302) as an outfielder.

Delmon Young went 0-for-4 against the White Sox on Saturday in his return to the Tigers' lineup.
Young served as the DH in his first game back from suspension, and will be cast in the same role again on Sunday. The Tigers are much better off defensively with Andy Dirks in left field and Young DH'ing, but Delmon's preference is to play in the field every day. His .229 average and five RBI on the season are dismal regardless of where he is defensively.

Delmon Young returned to the Tigers' lineup Saturday against the White Sox.
Young will DH and will bat fifth in his first game since his April 27 arrest in New York. The 26-year-old is hitting just .242/.311/.333 with one home run and five RBI in 74 plate appearances this season. Andy Dirks is starting in left field and batting eighth.

Tigers placed OF Austin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 17, with an abdominal strain.
Jackson doesn't sound confident that he'll be better anytime soon. "When I tried it in batting practice a couple of days ago," he said, "it didn't feel any better, and since then, I haven't done much except rest. I have to get a closer look at it to see if there's anything slowing the progress down." We should have a better idea how long Jackson will be sidelined following Friday's MRI.

Victor Martinez (knee surgery) has been off crutches for 10 days.
Martinez had microfracture surgery on his left knee in late January and underwent a procedure in early March to help the healing of his ACL. V-Mart can't afford any setbacks, but he's encouraged about the possibility of returning in September. We should know more about his status when he undergoes an MRI during a check-up in July.

Valverde hasn't pitched since last Tuesday because of lower back tightness. The 34-year-old right-hander has a 5.51 ERA and is just 7-for-9 in save opportunities this season but remains a strong fantasy option at closer and should be made active in all leagues immediately.

Good news. Schlereth is already performing range of motion exercises and should soon be cleared to resume throwing. He's been on the disabled list since late April.

Al Alburquerque (elbow) has begun long-tossing at the Tigers' spring training facility in Florida.
Alburquerque is throwing from 150 feet, and if he continues to be progress should be cleared to throw off a mound before long. The Tigers are hoping to get the hard-throwing reliever back around the All-Star break.
