The Cavaliers do not plan on discouraging oft-injured Anderson Varejao from participating in the Olympics for his home country of Brazil.
Varejao never returned from a wrist injury he sustained back on February 10th, so if he ends up playing in the Olympic Games, hopefully he will be able to stay healthy for next year's NBA season. The Cavs front office will no doubt be crossing their fingers he doesn't have a setback.

Anderson Varejao (wrist) still hopes to play for Brazil in the 2012 London Olympics.
Varejao is done for the season with a slow-healing wrist injury he suffered on Feb. 10, finishing the regular season with career-best averages of 10.8 points and 11.5 rebounds.

Updating a previous item, Anderson Varejao (wrist) has been shut down for the season.
This confirms that Varejao is safe to cut and Tristan Thompson will get all the minutes he can handle down the stretch at C for the Cavs. TT is a must own and must start for the remainder of the year.

It sounds like the Cavs will announce whether or not Anderson Varejao (wrist) will play again this season before Friday's game against the Knicks.
Head coach Byron Scott wants to let him get totally healthy saying, "I would love to shut him down but like we know Andy, he wants to play, we'll see what the doctors say.'' It certainly sounds like it's a long shot for Varejao to be cleared by season's end.

Although there are "no guarantees" in regards to him being ready, the assumption is that he'll be without restrictions when training camp rolls around. With Anthony Parker considering retirement, Gibson could be in for an increased role next season.

Coach Byron Scott said he doesn't know if the Cavs will extend a qualifying offer to Semih Erden (ankle, doubtful) this summer.
The qualifying offer to Erden would be for roughly $1.1 million. If the Cavs don't make the offer, he'll become an unrestricted free agent. Erden flopped badly with a chance as the starting center after Anderson Varejao's injury this season, averaging just 5.0 points and 4.1 rebounds in that role.
