Anthony Davis said his biggest focus for the offseason is to get stronger.
Davis' 6'10/220 frame just couldn't handle the NBA's bigger interior players. It also played a role in him missing 18 games (21.9 percent) as a rookie. The fact that Davis was still able to average 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks speaks to his monstrous upside. Still just 20 years old, the Kentucky product has plenty of room for explosive growth.

Anthony Davis will miss the rest of the season with an MCL sprain and bruise to his left knee.
The good news is that there is no structural damage to the knee, which means this should have minimal impact on his outlook as a Pelican next season. Marcus Thornton landed on Davis' left knee on Wednesday and it put the interior part of his knee in an awkward position, so it's nice to see there won't be any long term issues from the injury. As for the rest of this season, Robin Lopez will be the last true big man left standing for New Orleans and is coming off a 20-point game on Wednesday, so he should be valuable in most formats. Ryan Anderson will likely slide into the starting lineup and Al-Farouq Aminu could be in line for more shots and playing time. Xavier Henry could also get some burn at small forward with some of these aforementioned players sliding to power forward more often.

Anthony Davis (knee) is expected to undergo an MRI on Thursday.
Davis left Wednesday's game vs. Sacramento with the injury and didn't return, and although Monty Williams thinks Davis "is OK," the MRI will reveal exactly what Davis is dealing with. Even if he doesn't have a serious injury, the Hornets could shut him down as a precaution. AD was reportedly "limping noticeably" to the team bus, but at least he was able to put some weight on his leg. Davis has already sustained a concussion, a stress reaction in his ankle and a shoulder injury in his rookie season. Ryan Anderson would step in if Davis has to sit out.

Sidelined
Multiple reports from Venezuela indicate Greivis Vasquez will have surgery on both ankles during the offseason.
The news is passed along from Bourbon Street Shots, a True Hoop affiliate of the ESPN Network. One report from Venezuela indicates Vasquez will need 12-to-16 weeks for recovery, and it's possible this impacts Vasquez's ability to play in the FIBA tournament in late August. Vasquez dealt with ankle injuries late in the year, but there has been no word on any sort of surgery or procedure to date. Stay tuned, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer to know more.

A source told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that Eric Gordon trade rumors have "no merit."
Gordon is expected to be shopped by the Pelicans as the team looks to get out from under his contract, but right now it appears the team is committed to keeping him. We'd expect that to change as we enter the offseason and more teams begin to get active in shaping their plans for next season, but he'll remain with the Pelicans for now.

Austin Rivers says he would prefer to play point guard next season.
Rivers was drafted as a bit of a combo guard and the Hornets used him at shooting guard while Eric Gordon was sidelined. Of course, Rivers had arguably the worst rookie season ever, at least from a shooting point of view. The rookie shot just 37 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3-point range in 61 games. "I played best when I was a one. Moving forward, that's what I'm going to try to do," Rivers said.

Jason Smith (shoulder surgery) has one year left on his contract at $2.5 million, but it's only guaranteed for $1 million if he's waived before June 30th.
Smith said recently that he's "making progress" in his rehab and it will be interesting to see if the Pelicans keep him on their roster -- $2.5 million isn't unreasonable for a solid backup PF/C, but Smith seems injury-prone after having three major surgeries in the past six years.
