The Mavericks waived Tariq Abdul-Wahad on Friday.
"He wasn't a key factor at any point," assistant coach Del Harris said. "That knee is a tough injury. We never felt he got to a position where he could play. He expressed a will to play." Abdul-Wahad has played just 67 games over the past five years.

Tariq Abdul-Wahad apparently upset Mark Cuban, meaning he will probably be waived as late as possible.
Cuban was irked by Abdul-Wahad’s unwillingness to work with him on a buyout situation, so Cuban will wait until the last minute before waiving him, hurting his chances to catch on with another team. He hasn't played since 2002-03.

They're brining in Erick Strickland for training camp, and Strickland could actually make the team.

Tariq Abdul-Wahad will have a physical in the next few days to determine whether he can be cleared to practice.
If he fails the physical, it might mean the Mavs have cleared the necessary hurdles for insurance to cover 80 percent of the $6.75 million Adbul-Wahad is owed this season.

Sidelined
Roddy Beaubois underwent successful hand surgery on Wednesday and is out for the season.
The odds of Beaubois returning are "extremely slim," so we'll consider him out for the season for all intents and purposes. Beaubois will be a free agent in the offseason, and it's hard to see him returning to the Mavs. Dallas will roll with Mike James and Darren Collison at point guard.
