Troy Murphy is finishing his undergraduate degree at Columbia University and is on the dean's list.
While Murphy's post-retirement life has no bearing on fantasy rosters, his story is quite fascinating. He's working to complete a sociology degree and averaged a 3.80 last semester. The full story can be found in the link below, but one of the more humorous highlights was his response to what he missed most about the NBA. "I miss the socks," Murphy said. "The socks were unbelievable. There’s something about N.B.A. socks."

Mavericks waived F/C Troy Murphy.
The move made room for Derek Fisher. Murphy has averaged 4.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14 games for Dallas this year.

The Mavericks will waive Troy Murphy to make room for Derek Fisher on the roster, a source tells ESPN Dallas.
Murphy's contract was not guaranteed so the move makes sense. Murphy will look to latch on with another team after his brief tenure in Dallas.

Troy Murphy could be the "odd man out" with the signing of Derek Fisher.
The Mavs will have to make a roster move to accommodate Fisher on the team, and with Murphy on a non-guaranteed deal, he could be shown the door.

Dennis Smith Jr.
Sidelined
Dennis Smith Jr. (knee) has been ruled out of Tuesday's game vs. the Suns.
Smith Jr. was initially listed as questionable for Sunday's loss to the Sixers, but played and played very well, finishing with 20 points, 11 assists, three steals and two blocks in 40 minutes. However, in one final act of tanking, the Mavs will hold DSJ out of the season finale. Dallas will be shorthanded on Tuesday, and coach Rick Carlisle said that Yogi Ferrell will play sparingly. Aaron Harrison, who was a DNP-CD on Sunday, will see a significant uptick in minutes off the bench.

J.J. Barea
Sidelined
J.J. Barea (oblique) said he will not play again this season.
After another aggravation, he said he doesn't want to aggravate it any further ahead of the summer. Barea has really struggled to stay healthy in his career, so this news isn't a surprise today. The Mavs were putting together some silly lineups in his loss, so it's tough to gauge who the pickups will be. It could be Yogi Ferrell, but he only played 17 minutes tonight.

Seth Curry
Sidelined
Seth Curry (leg) will have season-ending surgery on his left tibia, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
It's been a completely lost season for Curry, who hasn't logged a single minute for the Mavs in 2017-18. According to Woj, Curry's recovery process is expected to take 12-14 weeks, which means he's expected to be fully recovered and on the court by the start of free agency on July 1st. If anybody was still holding onto Curry, he should obviously be sent to the waiver wire in all fantasy formats.

Wesley Matthews
Sidelined
Wesley Matthews (leg) said he expects to be cleared for basketball-related activity this week.
He has an MRI scheduled on Thursday to determine if the stress fracture in his right fibula is healed, so we may get another update this evening. "By the end of the week, I should be good to go," Matthews said. The injury sidelined him for the final 16 games of the season and he finished with averages 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.4 triples on 40.6% shooting. He hasn't decided if he will pick up his $18.6M player option for 2018-19, but it will be hard for him to leave that kind of money on the table.

Harrison Barnes
Sidelined
Harrison Barnes (rest) is listed as out for Tuesday's game against the Suns.
Barnes logged 43 minutes on Sunday, so it's not at all surprising to see him hit the sidelines for the final game of the season, a game that both teams will be trying to lose. Barnes will end his second year in Dallas with averages of 18.9 points, 6.1 boards, 2.0 assists, 1.5 triples and 1.5 turnovers per game on 44.5% shooting from the field and 82.7% from the stripe.

Dirk Nowitzki
Sidelined
Dirk Nowitzki (left ankle surgery) is progressing on schedule and has begun walking without a protective boot.
He's still expected to wear the boot for a few more weeks when he leaves his house, but it's encouraging that he's on pace in his recovery. "The foot is not great," Dirk said. "That's obvious after 20 years in the league. I got arthritis in every joint I have in the body ... But they corrected that one area that was bothering me all season and hopefully it'll be a lot better next season." The future Hall-of-Famer has never wavered in his commitment to play in 2018-19.

Salah Mejri did not play on Friday against the Pistons.
Two knee contusions this week could keep Mejri out for the year. Plus, Johnathan Motley is comin'.

Nerlens Noel
Suspended
Nerlens Noel has been suspended without pay for five games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program.
Noel’s suspension will begin with Tuesday's game between the Mavericks and Trail Blazers. The Mavs have exactly five games left this season, so Noel will not return to the court in 2017-18. He should obviously be waived in all fantasy formats. Salah Mejri will likely soak up most of Noel's abandoned minutes. As an unrestricted free agent this summer, this was not the way Noel wanted to enter free agency.
