Speaking Thursday, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said LB Jaylon Smith (knee) could have full nerve regeneration by Week 1.
The news has gotten better and better for Smith, who has gone from no progress to slow progress to quick progress. Turning 22 in June, Smith also has youth on his side. Smith could be a 2017 X-factor if he gets close to full health.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones says LB Jaylon Smith (knee, nerve issue) is regaining feeling in his toes.
The injury Smith suffered in his final college game was catastrophic, leaving behind nerve damage. One year after the Cowboys made him the No. 34 overall pick, Smith is finally making real progress. He's expected to participate in the offseason program, but probably won't be full-go.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith's (knee) nerve "has begun regenerating," and he's slowly gaining muscle control.
Smith has been battling drop-foot ever since his gruesome injury that damaged the nerve in his knee. He's slowly regaining control of his foot, and has been able to lift his toes and foot. The Cowboys are hopeful progress will continue. Smith is fully expected to be ready for OTAs and play in 2017.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said LB Jaylon Smith (knee) should be ready for OTAs.
"He’s doing great," said Jones. "Making great improvements. We’re more fired up than ever we picked him last year." Smith resumed running in February, but was still dealing with some nerve damage. It sounds like the Cowboys expect to have him for most of their offseason program. Smith is trending in the right direction, but his 2017 role remains up in the air.

Swaim injured his foot in informal workouts at the Cowboys' facility this week. A blocking tight end, Swaim's 2016 was cut short with a pectoral injury.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said Chaz Green has "a great opportunity to win" the open right tackle job.
Following Doug Free's retirement, the Cowboys are likely banking on Green living up to his third-round pedigree. Unfortunately, Green has been available for just four games through two seasons because of injury and is currently recovering from back surgery. It is not a given he is able to step up. New signing Byron Bell should also get a look, but Dallas might reluctantly be forced to move La'El Collins outside.
