Steven Jackson's three-year, $12 million contract with the Falcons contains no guaranteed money behind the first season.
So if Jackson falls off the cliff during his age-30 season -- we don't think he will -- the Falcons can get out of his deal with little or no salary cap hit in 2014. S-Jax received a $3.5 million signing bonus, and $500,000 of his 2013 base salary ($1.75 million) is guaranteed. In 2014, Jackson's salary jumps to $3 million. His final base salary is scheduled at $3.75 million.

After tape review of Steven Jackson's 2012 season, NFL Films' Greg Cosell believes Jackson has plenty of juice left in his tank.
"He's still a very, very good player," said Cosell. "He may not be a guy who you're gonna give it 280, 300 times anymore ... but he's still got some quickness. You don't call him a speed back -- he's not
that
guy -- but he still has some ability to get outside. He's always been a finisher. He's a guy with natural power. He's both strong and physical." Jackson won't reach 300 carries in Atlanta, but 300 touches could give him borderline first-round fantasy value in Atlanta's high-octane, touchdown-friendly offense.

Falcons agreed to terms with RB Steven Jackson, formerly of the Rams, on a three-year, $12 million contract.
The Falcons replace a diminished Michael Turner with the top back on the market. Although he's going on 30 and parked at 2,802 career touches, S-Jax had plenty left in the tank in 2012, and is a perfect fit for the Falcons offense as a versatile back with power and burst. Turner made it nearly impossible for Atlanta to move the chains on the ground last season, often holding hostage an otherwise elite offense. Jackson will be good for more than four yards per pop, and is a major asset in the passing game. Whereas Turner received a whopping 51 red-zone opportunities in the Falcons' 2012 offense, S-Jax only had 27 with the Rams. It's fair to wonder if Jackson could set a career high in touchdowns in 2013.

An agent "repping one of the better backs in the draft" tells Packer Report that he's under the impression Green Bay is "closing in" on a deal with free agent Steven Jackson.
The agent apparently doesn't rep S-Jax. Throughout Wednesday, several signs pointed to Jackson picking the Packers over the Falcons. The latter team does not appear to be seriously bidding, perhaps taken out of the mix by Tony Gonzalez's return. Gonzo will cost at least $7 million, taking a bite out of Atlanta's cap.
