Free agent LB Adalius Thomas hopes to play football in 2011.
Thomas received in-season tryouts from the Bengals and Dolphins, but never signed. Turning 34 this August, it's hard to imagine him latching on for more than a minimum-salary deal. He pass-rush skills evaporated in 2008.

The Bengals recently tried out free agent OLB Adalius Thomas.
Thomas has background with Bengals coach Marvin Lewis from their days together in Baltimore, when Lewis was the Ravens' defensive coordinator. The 33-year-old has also had tryouts with the Dolphins and Jets this season.

The Dolphins brought free agent LB Adalius Thomas in for a workout Tuesday, one day after he met with the Jets.
At the very least, this should force the Jets to make a decision as they have waffled about bringing in Thomas for a few months now. Thomas, 33, has barely gotten any nibbles on the open market because he can no longer rush the passer at a high level. He had three sacks in 14 games for the Patriots last season.

The Jets are not expected to sign OLB Adalius Thomas after the free agent visited on Monday.
What's the hurry? Thomas has been freely available April, drawing little to no interest on the open market. The Jets will turn their attention to defensive tackle for now.

ESPN Boston agrees with the Boston Herald that Patriots WR Julian Edelman is not a lock for a roster spot.
The Patriots waited nearly a month before re-signing Edelman to a contract that includes no guaranteed money, while a setback with his troublesome foot has him questionable for the beginning of camp. Edelman's experience in the Patriots' system and special-teams prowess should give him a leg up on the likes of Donald Jones, Lavelle Hawkins and Michael Jenkins, but only if he's healthy.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots "(don't) know" how serious Rob Gronkowski's back injury is.
"I wish I knew as much as you'd like me to know," were the words of owner Robert Kraft. Rapoport believes the Pats should consider placing Gronk on the reserve/PUP list, which would hold him out for the first six games of the season. Depending on how Gronk's expected back operation goes, they may not have a choice.

ESPN Boston reports that "word is" Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) can expect a four-month recovery period.
Hernandez underwent a "minor scope" almost three weeks ago, and he is not expected to participate in OTAs or minicamp. It's possible he could even open training camp on the PUP list. There remains plenty of time for Hernandez to be ready for Week 1. The Patriots will likely bring him along slowly.
